Changing the World One Birth at a Time Through Education and Support
My name is Terry Woods, and I am the founder of Birth Practices. You can reach me at [email protected].
I currently reside in Arizona and live with my husband and three dogs (Holly - a 145 lb. Rottweiler and Tiny – a 14 lb. Pomeranian Pug and Lilly - a 25 lb. Mini Goldendoodle). I raised seven children and now have 11 living grandchildren (having lost two beautiful grandchildren at an early age). I have been a nurse since I was 19 years old, starting as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), then getting my Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN), followed by a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN), and now I have my Master’s Degree in Nursing with a focus on education (MSN, Ed.).
I have been involved with the birthing community for over 30 years. In addition to working as a labor and delivery registered nurse, I also received the following training and certifications.
International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA) - Initial certification as a childbirth educator (1996).
Doulas of North America (DONA) - Initial certification as a Labor Doula (1996) Certified Labor Doula Trainer (1998).
Childbirth and Postpartum Professionals Association (CAPPA) - Certification as a Labor Doula, initial certification as a Postpartum Doula, and certification as a Childbirth Educator. (2001), Certified Labor and Postpartum Doula and Certified Childbirth Educator Faculty (2001).
I have trained several hundred women over ten years of running my businesses and have provided childbirth education and doula services to approximately 120 women. 'Are We Ready Yet?' was my first business from 1996 to 1999, in which I provided childbirth classes to couples in the privacy and comfort of their own home and attended to women as their labor doula. Birth Matters was the second business I started in 1999 until 2010, where I continued to provide private childbirth classes and labor doula services but also included labor doula training workshops in Arizona and other states.
This year, I created Birth Practices in order to offer my services as a mentor to other women wishing to become labor doulas and providing the training and certification opportunities for doing so, and to provide childbirth education to expectant families.
I am passionate about teaching and helping new families get the best start on a life they possibly can and helping other women find their niche in the birthing world. I created this space for those who consider yourselves a "birth junkie" like me. Are you interested in helping other women with their birthing process? Are you a doula just starting your journey and need a mentor to guide you? Are you experienced and want to join a community of like-minded women to share your experience? Join us here at Birth Practices to get your cup filled as we come together to learn and grow in the awareness of evidence-based care and providing education and support to birthing women everywhere.
